Well, I’ve never been to Spain……… Never Been To Spain - Three Dog Night LYRICS ON SCREEN - Bing video …………….

………………..or Ireland for that matter, but I would venture a guess Ireland would look a lot like what I am seeing outside my office window.  Green, lush, rolling grassy hills are back!  The cattle are very happy.  The rancher/banker is very happy (no more feeding).  Now I can focus on finding the rainbow, the leprechaun and the pot of gold.  What’s the next best thing to finding a pot of gold you ask?  Well, its corn beef and cabbage of course.  If you have purchased ¼ beef from us, you can do your very own with the brisket cut.  This has always been one of our family favorites and I don’t know why we don’t do this more than once or twice a year because it is good!  Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone!

This is a great video of how you can make your own corned beef from start to finish How to Make Corned Beef and Cabbage | From Field to Table | The Bearded Butchers - Bing video You probably have all the ingredients on hand now.  Just one night to marinade so get that brisket out and get going………………

Speaking of rainbows -

Is everyone staying dry out there?  What a winter we have had and it’s not over yet.  Its super nice to see the water filling up our California reservoirs and there is something special about getting to see the dry creek on the ranch flowing with water for the last couple months.  All we need is for someone to stock a few rainbows in there and ill grab my flyrod, and I might not ever get any work done.  I know my dogs are loving it.

I can just imagine a couple of rainbows in there.

After the first cancellation for weather and with a stroke of luck, we might have hit the most perfect day over the last several months to get our calves branded and vaccinated.  Thank you to the folks who came out and helped us get that done.   It's always a perfect day when you have friends, family, some cold beer and tasty vittles.   Chris, Bret and Dago put out a beautiful spread for us after the work was done.  All the kids and their buddies helped on the ground crew and our local neighbor cowboys helped in the saddle.  A great day of fellowship along with a few glasses of wine.

Come and get it!

I often get asked “What made you want to buy a cattle ranch?”  I actually believe most are really thinking “What the hell did you get yourself into!”

Well, I don’t know of any little boy who at one point in his life didn’t want to be a cowboy, but I also believe it was in my blood.

My father was a third generation Nevadan born in Reno.  His grandfather moved from Genoa, Nevada to the town of Aurora along the East Walker River where my grandfather was born.  They eventually moved to Reno where my grandfather was heavily involved in all aspects of ranching from a land and livestock appraiser to an extension agent for the county farm bureau.

Here’s dad racing down the streets of Aurora as a youngster.  If interested in the history of that area a great book is Along the East Walker River by Sue Silver.  It's a fun book that tells the story of the people that settled this area.

The rain started off with a roar this year and hasn’t really let up yet.  This is typically a dry creek bed.  There is a barbed wire fence under there somewhere.
