There were many calls and texts leading up to our branding this year. After almost a month of no rain the weatherman seemed a little confused on exactly what was going to happen that Saturday. Each day closer to the brand day seemed to show a different weather pattern. Fingers crossed and best guess the rain would hold off, we made the decision to thread the needle and make it happened.
After all, nobody out here is made of sugar.
Clouds were threating Friday night, but we got up Saturday morning to a pinch of blue sky as the sun came up before the dark clouds took over as the morning went on.
Old and new friends came together to help gathered and brand cattle that morning.
We certainly don’t have the most cattle in the valley so it’s always wonderful to have our neighbor friends show up to lend a hand. This was our 8th year doing this. We have learned a lot and still have a lot more to go. Our neighbors are perfect teachers and always so helpful.
We are doing some work on our corrals this winter, so it was helpful to have the cowboys all helping to get those to where they needed to go. Even Shorty horse got some work in, helping gather that morning.
We appreciate the help so very much!
Maybe my first ride? This had to be late 60's
Thanks Cousin Bob
After the work was done, we headed up to the main house for some BBQ and liquid refreshments.
And just so we are clear, as much as I love a great JNB burger or steak, we do love our veggies around here as well. They almost made it to the table the next day. Whoops -
Here is the crew gillin’ the veggies the night before, so we had room on the BBQ for the main attraction the next day.
Dad Bruce, Connie, nephew Joe, Nephew Mikey, Jared, Nephew Blak, brother Marc and yours truly……nice work gang!
Here's my 86-year-old dad.
He's watching us brand that morning in the side by side. Here's another picture of him on his first side by side (three-wheeler) 85 + years ago outside the family home in Reno NV.
A lot of folks say he looks a bit like ol' Clint Eastwood. Reminds me of the song Toby Keith wrote for one of Clints movies.... Keep it going dad - don't let the old man in dad!
As always, Dago and Chris were the heroes of the BBQ that day.
You guy did a fantastic job getting everything all out……………….at the same time……………and hot!
Here they are on taking a little break.
Nice work boys!
Many a Coors beer and as many great memories with this gang. Growing up in the 80’s was a special time with some great music. Here is a link to some classic 80” country music. https://youtu.be/vsi9A0XtYrQ
Having friends and family out to the ranch is a great way for everyone to stay connected and catch up with each other. I’ve been friends with these guys since I was eight years old back in the 70's.
Jabe, Pat, Ken, and Jyme.
I was 11 years old when Smokey and the Bandit came out and couldn’t wait to be 16 to get that black Trans Am with the T-Top, which of course I never did but that song is etched in my mind to this day. Here it is along with some additional Jerry Lewis songs. Bing Videos
Pat………Ill never forget rocking out to Jeremiah was a Bullfrog on the vinyl record……...over and over again in your mom and dad’s (Joan and Roy) living room. Bing Videos
Roy and Marc having a good laugh!
Some of my favorite peeps.
The next generation are growing up fast and putting down their own roots these days. I like those boots, Morgan!
and by the way.......let me know if you want to buy some of the best all-natural pasture raised and grain finish beef there is.
Thank you again everyone for coming out to help.
Happy trails to you
Until we meet again
Happy trails to you
Keep smiling until then
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song, and bring the sunny weather
Happy trails to you
'Til we meet again
